1. What was your first Metal Gear experience and how old were you at the time?

I was 29 and it was Metal Gear Solid 3.  I was hanging out with some roleplayers and met a couple of girls that roleplayed as Raikov and Volgin, and one of them linked me to some videos of MGS3 footage.  I purchased the game shortly before Christmas of 2010 when Snake Eater was available new on Amazon for $10.  I instantly fell in love with it.  In before I should have started with the first game, but the Jungle theme and the concept of survival was what pulled me into this particular game, along with Raikov and Volgin.  Timeline wise, it’s okay anyway, right?

It actually wasn’t that long ago, I know.

2. What was your honest reaction to the switchup that Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty pulled on everyone? For example, were you one of the people that hated Raiden and wanted Solid Snake back?

I haven’t played this game yet, but I’ve read a lot about Raiden in various places, and a couple of people spammed my ears back in 2008 with Raiden abusing the word “Drowning”, and I became very interested in him.  I don’t mind the switch in main character at all. In fact, I like him and can’t wait to try out MGS2 because of him.  Since my first month of Metal Gear enjoyment barely involved Solid Snake (I tried Twin Snakes at a friend’s house on New Years Weekend), I’ve yet to form a bond with him as a fan, anyway.  Except I’m playing Metal Gear Acid now.  Even if that’s not canon.

btw. DROWNING.

3. Do you have a favorite Metal Gear picture (e.g. a piece of Shinkawa artwork)?

I haven’t seen enough official artwork to make a decision yet. Most I’ve seen are pretty terrible fanarts on Pixiv and DeviantArt as well as the comics from HiImDaisy.

4. What is the hardest experience you’ve ever had in a Metal Gear game and did you ever overcome it?

Getting used to O being the confirm button and X being the cancel button. IT RUINED MY LIFE AS A GAMER. :|

Also the controls in general in MGS3.  Did you know that upon landing in the Russian Jungle at the start of the game, the first thing I did was roll right off a cliff and died?  I had a hard time NOT getting alert status early on in the game, but then I managed to get through the first half of the game by spraying an assault rifle directly in people’s faces.   That confrontation with the Sorrow was a very very VERY long one.  Nowadays I just bowl everyone over by rolling.

5. Name the most attractive female/male (or both if you’re that randy) in the Metal Gear universe.

Award is tied between Raikov and BigBoss. I also think Teliko’s design from Metal Gear Acid is really cute.

6. Have you ever played Metal Gear Online? If so what was your most memorable moment while playing?

There’s a Metal Gear Online?   I’m not really into MMOs, though.

7.What is your favorite Metal Gear game and why?

So far, MGS3 and it will likely stay that way.

8. Which weapon do you prefer using in the series the most?

Assault rifles. Great for people without the attention span for aiming accuracy.

9. If you genuinely hate one thing about the Metal Gear series, what is it?

The X and O buttons. Seriously.

10. Have you ever played any of the Solid games on Extreme? If so, how was your time with it?

I don’t know what this is.  I’m still new at this!

11. Who is your favorite ‘Snake’ in the series and why?

Big Boss/Naked Snake. I loved getting to know him more as I kept playing MGS3.  He’s lived a very interesting life throughout the timeline, and I think I want to play Portable Ops and Peacewalker before I fully get into Twin Snakes and Sons of Liberty.

12. What’s your favorite bit of music in the entire series?

So far, the opening theme to MGS3

13. Name one thing you didn’t like about each game (that you’ve played) specifically in three words or less.

X and O buttons (MGS3)

Some of the rooms are too dark to see anyone coming at you (Twin Snakes lol cammi that’s what the radar is for.)

Clearing out all the badguys on a map, and then spending another 20-50 turns getting two allies to cross an entire map via card moves just to get to the goal point. I maxed out the cost counter in the Power Plant for wanting to explore.  (MGAcid)

14. What’s your favorite boss encounter?

I had fun and was impressed with all the Cobras and Volgin.  I can’t decide.  If I really had to, I guess I would say The Sorrow out of a hat.

15. What was your initial reaction to Psycho Mantis reading your memory card and moving your controller around (age is relevant here of course)?

Spoilers. (just kidding)

16. I hate shipping, but I may as well indulge you fanatics for a few seconds here. What couple do you think would work best in the Metal Gear universe (already existing or not)?

Raikov/Volgin, BigBoss/Eva, Boss/Sorrow, and for laughs, I guess BigBoss/Raikov idk

17. Do you honestly think love can bloom on a battlefield?

If you are a sadist antagonist, you can make anything happen.

18. Can you name the exact moment you fell in love with the series (assuming you ever did)? If you can’t just name your most meaningful experience with the franchise.

I think I explained this in #1.  Whoops!

19. Name something that you like about the series that borders on outright perversion. If you don’t have one, just name the moment that made you laugh the most.

The scene where Volgin enters the room and grabs the Major’s crotch but it really wasn’t the Major and he found this out just from the crotchgrab.

20. Do you earnestly want the Metal Gear series to continue or do you think things are pretty nicely wrapped up as is?

I can decide on that when I actually catch up on all the games in the series.
